Best Bet at Warrnambool – Andress

The Lindsey Smith-trained Andress has three second place finishes to her name from six career starts and on Sunday strikes a maiden she should just be winning. The four-year-old mare out of Dissident returned from a four-month spell with a narrow runner-up effort at the Warrnambool 1100m and we think the step up to the 1200m is the tonic for success. Melissa Julius will look to take the mare back towards the second half of the field and under a well-timed steer, we expect to see Andress breakthrough for a deserved maiden win at start seven with a nice turn of foot.

Next Best at Warrnambool – Mr Cancun

Both of our best bets come out of the Lindsey Smith yard, this time with Mr Cancun in the Koroit Cup. Two starts back, the five-year-old son of Atlante absolutely flew home at Flemington to go down by the barest of margins, before he replicated a similar performance in the Woodford Cup on December 31. In the small field on Sunday he should not be too far away throughout the running and despite going up 2.5kg in the weights, his turn of foot should be too good for this field. With a genuine speed expected over the 1700m, it could set it up for a back-marker like Mr Cancun to finish over the top of them and and with Declan Bates onboard he looks a clear bet in this.

Next BestRace 7 – Mr Cancun (#2) $2.60 with Sportsbet

Best Value at Warrnambool – Parafield Gardens

In what is an open maiden event over 1700m, we think the Maddy Raymond-trained Parafield Gardens can finally break her maiden at start nine. She has three minor placings from four starts, but considering she hardly knows how to run a poor race, this five-year-old mare out of Cox Plate winner Adelaide presents great value. The booking of Damian Lane is an interesting one, but if there’s a jockey we want on in a field like this, it is Frosty. From barrier seven, look for Lane to settle Parafield Gardens just outside the leader and with race fitness on her side, she should prove hard to run down late.

Best ValueRace 4 – Parafield Gardens (#12) $6.50 with Sportsbet
