Monday racing tips for Wangaratta

An eight-race card is scheduled at Wangaratta in northern Victoria on Monday afternoon. With a warm spring day forecasted, rock-hard fit gallopers should be right at the fore. The rail is in the true position throughout, while the track has come up a Good 4 and could receive an upgrade early in the meeting. The first at Wangaratta will jump at 1:30pm AEDT.

Best BetRace 5 – Ashtrain (#1) $2.20 with Sportsbet

It looks to be a race in two for the first leg of the Wangaratta quaddie, and our top tip of the day comes from the Daniel McCarthy stable. Ashtrain never looked like getting beaten over this track and distance three weeks back when looming ominously on the home turn and charging clear to score by almost four lengths in a dominant first-up display. He stays at 1000m and looks hard to go past as he chases his third victory in four starts at Wangaratta.

Next BestRace 4 – Flying Finch (#4) $3.50 with Sportsbet

Russell Osborne will be hoping his lightly raced four-year-old gelding can go one better than what he did at Bendigo three weeks ago. He hit the lead probably a touch too early in that run and was left vulnerable over the concluding stages, but he should benefit from that first-up effort. From barrier six, Ethan Brown should not have too many issues in getting his mount up outside the leader. As long as he gets a little bit of luck in the running, Flying Finch should be hard to go past.

Best ValueRace 2 – Amaze’em (#8) $10 with Sportsbet

It was a bit of a hard watch if you took the big odds on Amaze’em a fortnight ago at Benalla. The four-year-old mare saw very little daylight at the top of the home straight and was too far back once she got clear, but she made up plenty of ground when railing quite nicely in the final stages and came out of the meeting as one to follow. John Robertson retains the ride, and if they can get a touch more luck when it counts, there’s no reason why they won’t be in the finish.
