Christmas Eve racing is set to be held at Wagga on Friday afternoon, and HorseBetting’s country NSW form analyst presents his best bets and free quaddie selections. The track has come up a Good 4, the rail is in the true position, and racing is set to commence at 1pm AEDT.
Wagga Best Bet – Honour The Legend
Popular trainer Mitchell Beer will be looking to celebrate Christmas with a maiden win for Honour The Legend, who has strung together consecutive runner-up efforts. The four-year-old son of Not A Single Doubt has looked like he had the race shot to pieces on both occasions, but he found one better in each. He has managed to find the one-one in both runs, and considering he has put a decent gap back to third in each run, he looks perfectly placed at Wagga. From barrier six, we expect Nick Souquet will lob him in the one-one again, where he should gain a nice tow into the race. With a nice turn of foot, he should break through for a deserved win at start nine.
Next Best at Wagga – Zakeriz
Chris Hardy brings Zakeriz to the Wagga 1600m for the Ted Ryder Cup following a win in the Ted Ryder Prelude on December 6. He took up his natural front-running position and made it a genuinely run affair throughout, which ultimately left his rivals with too much to do. He did that with 58.5kg on his back and will need to replicate that performance with 61kg on Friday. From barrier three, Nyssa Burrells will have no issue in finding the front and dictating terms but will need to have him perfectly rated out in front. If he can handle the weight, he will be too good for this lot.
Wagga Value Bet – Qeyaady
Formerly with the Ben & JD Hayes yard, the now Ben Brisbourne-trained Qeyaady looks well placed to bring up a first win for his new stable at his second start. The three-year-old son of I Am Invincible has been gelded and we expect the ultimate gear change will help him settle better when asked to settle off the speed. However, his best racing has come when settled up on the speed and looking to dictate terms, while he has decent form behind the likes of Anamoe and Paulele. We anticipate he will go forward on Friday with Hannah Edgley hopping on board and claiming 3kg. He has won with 58.5kg on his back before and can do so once again.
