Eight races will be run and won at the Murrumbidgee Turf Club on Friday as part of the two-day Wagga Gold Cup Carnival. The track is rated a Good 4 and the rail will remain in the true position. HorseBetting.com.au brings you our best bets and quaddie numbers for Gold Cup Day, which is set to kick off at 12:40pm AEST.

Best Bet: Big Day Out

Craig Weeding saddles up his talented galloper Big Day Out in a 1000m Class 3 Handicap. The three-year-old gelding has raced at Wagga seven times for two wins and four minor placings, so getting back to his favourite track will be a big plus. The son of Delago Deluxe found it a bit too tough against the likes of Galenus and Ocular at Cranbourne last time out at Benchmark 70 level, but he put his rivals to the sword the start prior at this track and distance in Class 2 company. Hannah Williams takes the ride and claims 3kg, which gets his weight down to 56kg. Barrier one will see Big Day Out hold a position before charging home late.

Best BetRace 2 – Big Day Out (#1) $5 with Sportsbet

Next Best: Sly Song

Six-year-old Sly Song comes to Wagga off a terrific win at Canberra last start on April 23rd. After settling a touch worse than midfield, Jeff Penza produced her and she went on to score by half a length over the 1400m journey. That win came in a Class 1, and this Benchmark 58 won’t be much harder, although the drop back to 1300m isn’t ideal. Penza retains the ride on the Nick Olive-trained mare and from barrier four will have the option to settle closer than last time out. She will go close.

Next BestRace 3 – Sly Song (#15) $8.50 with Sportsbet

Best Value: Girls Are Ready

Joe Cleary’s Girls Are Ready comes up as the top weight in this year’s Queen of the South at Benchmark 66 level, and she looks very well in. After finishing down the track behind Art Cadeau in the Country Championship Final in her most recent run, she should find this much easier. Hannah Williams has the ride and claims 3kg, which sees her in with 60kg, and the four-year-old mare tends to race well fresh, so a month between runs will be advantageous also. Barrier 13 is not ideal, but she will get back anyway and look to finish over the top of the big field. All four wins have come on rain-affected going, so the Good 4 surface is of some concern, but we are hoping class can prevail in this.

Best ValueRace 4 – Girls Are Ready (#?) $9 with Sportsbet
