We kick off the racing week out of the Riverina as Wagga Wagga hosts a competitive seven-race program. The rail is out +6m between the 1400m-winning post and true the remainder of the circuit. The track is listed as a Good 4 surface and with only a small chance of rain, is likely to be exactly that on Monday afternoon. The first race is set to get underway at 2:00pm AEDT.
Best Bet at Wagga: Smelisha
Smelisha makes her way back north of the boarder after a run down in Victoria on February 10 at Moonee Valley and can be ultra-competitive in this 2000m BM58. She wasn’t disgraced in that trip when running sixth, four-lengths off the eventual winner and held her position nicely throughout. Back to something easier here and a nice tick-over trial at Canberra in between runs, we’re happy to be siding with this daughter of Savabeel. She’s third up now with fitness on her side and with the scratching of Iknowastar is the class of this field. Nick Heywood will be finding a mid-field position here and should be outstaying her rivals to score her fourth career win on Monday afternoon.

Next Best at Wagga: Oneofthetwelve
We’ve got a keen eye on this debutant for the Danielle Seib yard as we see Oneofthetwelve step out for the first time on Monday. This four-year-old has had just one barrier trial and despite a significant margin, the piece of work at Canberra on February 24 was impressive. He was hard held behind the eventual winner of the trial and race rival Sass ‘N’ Cheek was much the same. All that said, we thought the work from Oneofthetwelve was just as good, if not better, plus we’re getting a better price to boot. Look for senior jockey Shaun Guymer take a sit somewhere mid-field before peeling out late to be competitive on debut.

Best Value at Wagga: Greek Tycoon
Greek Tycoon is a great bet to finish the Wagga Wagga card on Monday afternoon and on the each-way basis can give us a bold sight. This son of Star Turn has been luckless since his first-up win back in November and has found the minor money another three of his last four appearances on the track. His latest was at Albury when running second behind Fox Appeal on February 25 and just missed from well back in the small field. This time with the appointment of apprentice Jett Stanley, it should mean a more positive ride and from barrier five should see him top half of the field in a race with plenty of tempo on paper. Mitchell Beer has this guy going really well and if he can get out with time to spare, he’ll look the winner at some stage.
