What Wagga Riverside Races
Where Murrumbidgee Turf Club – Travers Street, Slocum St, Wagga Wagga NSW 2650
When Monday, December 5, 2022
First Race 1:55pm AEDT

Racing heads to the Riverina to start the racing week with a seven-race program out of Wagga Wagga. We’re racing on the Riverside circuit with the rail in the true position for race-day and perfect forecast setting up for terrific conditions for Monday afternoon. The first race is scheduled to get underway at 1:55pm AEDT.

Wagga Best Bet: Lumber Dream

Our best bet comes in the third race of the program with Lumber Dream looking for back-to-back wins for trainer Rodger Waters. His last start win third-up was strong at Goulburn on October 30 after getting back in the field and storming home late to score by 0.2 lengths. That was a competitive BM66 contest and drops down to 55kg when stepping up to open company on Monday afternoon. He’s well weighted after that win and has a fitness edge on his rivals here, however, he does tend to miss the start at times, but that should be offset by barrier two here. Michael Travers takes the reins on this gelding by Snitzel and should get the box seat in running before letting down similarly to last start to salute.

Next Best Bet: Greek Tycoon

The second leg of the Quaddie looks a two-horse race on paper with Deepmind and our on top selection, the Mitchell Beer-trained Greek Tycoon. We were taken with the win of Greek Tycoon at Gundagai on November 12 when putting a space on his rivals going on to win by 3 lengths. He undoubtedly got the gun run that day and proved too good for that company, but he only gets a 1kg penalty for that win while Deepmind drops the same weight from his last start tilt against progressive type Mogo Magic. While the speed map may not be as favourable as it was at Gundagai, the hope is that Jockey Simon Miler can get the back of the market favourite here from gate 10 before peeling off Deepmind to score. Greek Tycoon is a great price with online bookmakers and can hopefully notch up career win number three.

Best Value: Ruban Bleu

It’s been a long time between wins for this seven-year-old son of Artie Schiller being May of 2020, but we think he looks ready to find a peak performance here second-up for the Matthew Dale stable. If you completely forget the first-up effort at Rosehill on November 5 after bombing the start, his form reads reasonably well for this grade. His run at this track and distance back in April is what we’re happy to go by, he was back and wide but produced an electric turn-of-foot late to find the frame being beaten just 1.3 lengths. If Ruban Bleu can recapture that performance, he looks well in at the weights and is worth a bet at the each-way odds with Jeff Penza taking the reins from a perfect draw we’re happy to take a piece of the price on offer.

Race 6 – silks#9 Ruban Bleu (1)
