What Wagga Riverside Races
Where Murrumbidgee Turf Club – Travers Street, Slocum St, Wagga Wagga NSW 2650
When Monday, November 21, 2022
First Race 1:15pm AEDT

Racing heads to the Riverina on Monday afternoon with an eight-race program set for Wagga Wagga on the Riverside surface. The track is listed as a Good 4, however, with plenty of rain around the region we’re likely to be racing closer to the soft range come race-day. The rail is in the true position for the meeting as racing gets underway at 1:15pm AEDT.

Wagga Best Bet: Oakey’s Choice

Our best bet on Monday afternoon comes in this race four BM58 contest over the 1065m with Oakey’s Choice. This gelding trained out the Michelle Ritchie yard looks to bounce back after a disappointing performance last start when outclassed at Randwick on Melbourne Cup Day on November 1 beaten by 4.8 lengths, the run looks worse than it was on paper though after leading them up early and dropping out late in the piece. It all came a bit too soon for this three-year-old by Headwater to head to town, so back in grade at the Wagga Wagga Riverside track looks a great opportunity to get a third win on the board. Scott Pollard should lob the gun run from barrier one stalking the speed before looking to replicate Oakey’s Choice winning effort at Goulburn on September 23, provided he runs up to that occasion, he looks hard to beat.

Next Best Bet: Intense Effort

We look to the lucky last to find another best bet on the card with progressive four-year-old mare Intense Effort. After breaking her maiden status in her first career start here at Wagga Wagga in dominant fashion on October 28 by 1.3 lengths, she looks a cracking chance to make it back-to-back wins when stepping up into Class 1 company. This daughter of Reward For Effort was faultless first-up and should be able to do something similar on Monday afternoon. Jordan Mallyon takes the reins here as he did in the first-up win and from barrier one should have the perfect set up to sit in behind what looks a hot tempo on paper before showing the same turn-of-foot she did in her initial win. With luck, Intense Effort should be finding the winners enclosure again.

Best Value: Cliff House

Cliff House is yet to miss the frame in his three career starts and looks to get his second career win on the board on Monday afternoon in this BM58 contest over the 1800m. This four-year-old Starcraft gelding doesn’t know how to run a bad race after sitting wide the entire trip last start here at Wagga Wagga on October 28, he still managed to hit the line strongly and produce a solid performance. Put a pen through that luckless run and go back two start when he was victorious over the mile on October 19, he powered through the going to smash his rivals and look for Cliff House to reproduce that effort here over the 1800m. We’re getting a great price with online bookmakers due to market favourite Mammoth Mountain holding most of the early money. Alysha Collett hops aboard here and so long as she can get some cover mid-race, we’re happy to be with this Tim Donnelly-trained galloper.

Race 5- silks#2 Cliff House (3)
