It is Day 2 of the Wagga Cup Carnival this Friday at the Murrumbidgee Turf Club, with the $200,000 Listed Wagga Gold Cup (2000m) serving as the headline act. Wagga Gold Cup Best Bet – Ain’tnodeeldun
Anthony & Sam Freedman saddle up a couple of horses at Wagga over the two days of the carnival, but none more exciting that Ain’tnodeeldun. The son of Dundeel has plenty of ability – which we saw early in his career – but a long injury layoff has seen him take a few runs to get back to his best. We saw glimpses of his best form last start when he flashed home into second behind Grandlam at Caulfield in the VOBIS Gold Heath (2000m). On Thursday, the four-year-old entire will be fourth-up and staying at 2000m, while he drops from 57kg to the minimum weight of 54kg. Tim Clark can win his third Wagga Gold Cup. We can make a strong case for Numerian also, but 60kg is a slight query.

Wagga Best Bet – Sea Treasures
We actually made this guy one of our best bets at Canterbury on Wednesday, but Bjorn Baker opted to scratch his three-year-old and run in this MTC Guineas instead. The $80,000 3YO Benchmark 74 has attracted a strong field of 15, with Sea Treasures a clear standout after running fifth in the Australian Derby last month. The son of So You Think worked home really well at the end of 2400m, going down just less than 10 lengths to Hitotsu. Character franked the Derby form on Saturday when winning the Queensland Guineas at Eagle Farm, so we are hoping that Sea Treasures can follow in that horse’s footsteps and win the MTC Guineas. He is likely to get back from barrier 14 under Alysha Collett, but we expect him to be too strong late.

Wagga Next Best – Fangela
Keith Dryden and Molly Burke combine in the last with talented grey Fangela. The four-year-old son of The Factor has been racing well of late, with two wins and three minor placings from his past five starts, while he has only missed the placings once in his nine starts. He was only narrowly beaten at Canberra on April 8 over 1200m with 59.5kg on his back, so the 1kg less on Friday should be enough to see him get his head down when it matters. He should get the right run in transit from barrier three and be able to return to the winner’s circle.
