Vo ROUGUE Horse Betting Preview – 2nd January 2021

The Group 3 Magic Millions Vo Rogue Plate is the feature race at Eagle Farm on Saturday afternoon. Run over 1400m, a full field of 17 has been put together, topped by Gotta Kiss and Palladas. There looks to be speed drawn all across the park, with Apache Chase, Boombrasstic and Portland Sky set to be the most prominent three.

Steve O’Dea’s classy filly, Gotta Kiss looks perfectly suited here up to 1400m for the first time since her Group 1 placing in the J.J. Atkins six months ago. She has had two runs this campaign over 1000m and 1200m respectively and has been an eye-catcher in both runs, coming from the back to hit the line strongly. The Not a Single Doubt filly has had a final tune-up trial between runs, which should bring her into this at full fitness. Of all the market fancies, she has been the benefactor of a good gate in barrier 6, so she should be able to hold a close enough position to finish over the top of them.

Victorian raider, Portland Sky was a tough all the way winner at The Valley at the end of October at Group 3 level where he beat Bella Nipotina and Valaquenta in style. Still with Matt Laurie, the three-year-old colt is looking for Queensland’s riches in next months Magic Millions 3YO Guineas, so this could just be a fitness run here, but on class alone he could be too good. Drawn barrier 14 under Luke Currie, he’ll push forward and look to sit outside the leader in what will be his first run beyond 1200m. He’s an each-way price and must be included in multiples.

Kelly Schweida’s Batangas Entry was by no means a good thing beaten last start behind Isotope and Away Game, but he certainly was luckless. After jumping fairly, he ended up against the fence about four pairs back and raced in restricted room, before running into a dead end at the 300m. His work late was good enough under light riding. Barrier 12 will see Glen Boss look to get over to be on the outside of runners in a closer spot. The son of Vancouver has had two goes at 1400m for two runner-up efforts. With even luck, the big three-year-old gelding can finish in the numbers here at any old price.
