Uncle Bryn for Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young has smashed his rivals in the Listed Cranbourne Cup, after a 10 out of 10 ride from Mark Zahra.

The field was strung out over the 1600m trip after the leaders, No Surrender and Lightsaber, took off and went at a break-neck speed, which set up perfectly for the winner who sat eighth in the running at least 10 lengths behind the leaders.

Uncle Bryn beat the tough Callsign Mav and Visinari, who boxed on well after sitting on-pace.

The winner was heavily backed late in betting with online bookmakers and jumped as the $3.20 favourite.

After winning the feature event at Cranbourne, it brought up a training treble for Busuttin & Young, while it also gave Mark Pilkington and his team at Seymour Bloodstock a race-to-race double and he spoke with Racing.com post-race.

“It’s great for the guys to win their hometown cup today, so it’s fantastic.”

Pilkington explained how happy he was for Busuttin & Young, after winning the Cranbourne Cup.

“It was a last-minute call to back him up after last week, but he’s a promising young horse and we’re just trying to take him through his grades.

“The prize money is so great here in Victoria at the moment, so you can really take your time and hopefully consolidate a nice horse for the future.”

Mark Zahra brought up a double on Cranbourne Cup Day by winning the feature, adding to his win in the first race of the day on Remedies.

“I was, they were steaming along in front.”

Zahra replied that he was giggling to himself and couldn’t believe how fast the leaders were going.

“I was really travelling and everyone around me were sort of going for their horses and I hadn’t even moved yet.

“It was over from a long way out.”

Zahra ended his post-race interview with a very strong response to the question of whether Uncle Bryn can win a Group 1 in the near future.

“He could. I reckon a mile is his trip and if he is set for a mile, he can win one for sure.”
