Trainer Nathan McPherson is planning a campaign aimed at protecting the unbeaten record of Eurack who makes her return at Caulfield.

Eurack, who made her debut at Bendigo before two midweek wins in town, jumps to Saturday grade in the Ladbrokes Handicap, an 1100m-benchmark 78 race.

Depending on her performance McPherson is looking to black-type races later in her campaign.

McPherson was concerned he may have gone to the well once too often with Eurack who last raced in August at Sandown.

“I wasn’t impressed with the way she spelled,” McPherson said.

“I think her mind kept ticking over a bit after going for that third run.”

The trainer had concerns early in her preparation, which began on November 1, that some hot days later that month had been taxing.

With a three-month build-up, which includes a Cranbourne jump-out victory, Eurack is ready for her return.

“Now we’re into that next grade against some pretty seasoned racehorses,” McPherson said.

“Everything in the preparation has been about protecting her unbeaten record and I wouldn’t be racing her if she wasn’t right.”

Depending on how Eurack performs on Saturday, McPherson hopes to head to Flemington next month for a benchmark 84 race before graduating to black-type company.

He has picked out the Hareeba Stakes at Mornington on March 24 before looking further afield to Adelaide and Brisbane.

“There’s a race after the Robert Sangster, the Proud Miss Stakes, which maybe be a lot of people’s afterthought, but it’s my main thought,” McPherson said.

“And if she comes back from Adelaide well there’s a race in Queensland on Tatt’s Tiara day, the W J Healy Stakes.

“That way she’s only had four of five runs for the preparation then she can go out, have a nice little spell and then she’ll be right to tackle the spring, or more so the autumn next year when she is furnished.

“She’s going to be a beautiful mare when she’s fully developed.”

McPherson also has Hunting Hill in Saturday’s race but says he is likely to be saved for another day .
