Two winners for comeback jockey Johnson

Champion British jumps jockey Richard Johnson has shown he will not give up the title without a fight, riding two winners from two rides on his return from injury.

Johnson broke his arm in a fall on January 21 and was back in action at Musselburgh on Thursday (Friday AEDT).

He took two rides at the Scottish course for trainer Olly Murphy for a perfect score.

“I’m delighted to be back racing again and to ride a couple of winners is even better,” Johnson said.

Johnson trailed title rival Brian Hughes by three winners at the time of his injury, but was 20 adrift before Thursday with Hughes leading by 131 to 111.

Johnson admitted earlier this week it would be hard to win a fifth title race, but had not given up.

“After what happened last month, I’m just delighted to be back racing,” he said.

“Hopefully we can keep at it and we’ll see where it takes us.”

Johnson and Hughes will both be in action at the famous Cheltenham Festival which runs from March 10 to 14.
