Two Blue gives Buchanan first Group win

Kristen Buchanan has trained her first Group winner with Two Blue shaking off her bridesmaid tag at stakes level.

Two Blue notched up three black-type placings in the spring – beaten a length each time.

The seven-year-old mare ($26) wouldn’t be denied at Randwick on Saturday, shooting clear in the straight for an all-the-way win.

“She’s just so tenacious,” Buchanan said.

“She just loves being a racehorse.

“If you watch her she’ll run past them again at the post, she just has that incredible desire to win which is what makes her the horse she is.

“Even in track work if she sees something up ahead she’s got to go past it.”

Secret Agenda ($9.50) and Griante ($7.50) filled the placings.

Jockey Paul King got a rare Sydney stakes win aboard a horse he has partnered in 10 of her past 13 starts.

“She was unlucky last preparation. In quite a few races she a lot of good seconds against some good horses,” King said.

“I think she is in for a lot better of a prep this time around and that was proven today with her winning a Group Two.”

King’s winning ride was soured when stewards suspended him for careless riding while fining him $500 fine for overuse of the whip.

Buchanan said the Group Three Darley Crown at Hawkesbury was the original target for Two Blue, but the win had created options.

“The Queensland carnival is definitely on the agenda,” Buchanan said.
