TRNT announces $5k bonus for new horses coming to Territory

Alice Springs racing

Thoroughbred Racing Northern Territory has announced a bonus initiative that will benefit the connections of new horses to the Territory from January 1, 2023.

The Newcomers Bonus of $5,000 will be payable to each new horse introduced to the NT that wins a minimum of three races in the calendar year of 2023.

The horse must be trained by an NT-based trainer and be a minimum of 50 per cent owned in the Territory.

Only one bonus will be payable per horse, and will apply to horses that had their first start in the Territory from January 1 this year.

In 2020, 14 horses would have won the bonus, while 18 would have picked up the $5,000 in 2021 and a further 17 in 2022.

“It is hoped that this new initiative will encourage owners and trainers to invest in more horses for the Territory,” TRNT chief executive Andrew O’Toole said.

“And the chance to win an additional $5,000, as well as the stake-money which increased by five per cent across the board from April 1, is very appealing.”
