Triscay Stakes racing preview – Saturday, February 13
The Group 3 Triscay Stakes for the fillies and mares is one of the featured events at Randwick on Saturday. The 1200m race has attracted a field of nine, topped by Godolphin mare Tailleur as the $1.80 favourite. Tailleur should get it her own way in front, while Electric Girl can also be handy.
One of the better bets of the afternoon, in our opinion, is Tailleur. The four-year-old Godolphin mare has won five of her seven races and finished second the other two times, so she is simply a winner. From gate five, Kerrin McEvoy will find the front and, with race fitness and a low weight on her side, she should prove too good.
Sacred Falls mare Ice Bath was desperately unlucky not to add a Golden Eagle victory on her resume, but she nonetheless boasts a ripping race record of three wins and six placings from 15 starts. She had a super Spring Carnival and has trialled twice in good fashion leading up to this first-up assault. Barrier six should see her stalking Tailleur and makes her the main danger late.
Chris Waller saddles up Subpoenaed (paying around $11 with the top betting apps) for the thrill-seekers, and she might get a run to suit first up. The Rip Van Winkle mare has a good fresh record and races well at Randwick. From barrier eight under the in-form Tommy Berry, she will be out the back early but might get a nice enough cart into the race. She always savages the line late in her races, so don’t be surprised to see her charging home.
