Jump racing gets into full swing at the Trentham meeting in New Zealand on Saturday with five of the nine races carded being over obstacles. The track is currently Heavy with not much chance of improving by the weekend. The first race begins at 11.22am (NZST)
Best Bet at Trentham – Happy Star
Happy Star is the best bet of the day in one of the feature jumping races of the day, the Awapuni Hurdles over 2800 metres. He was a revelation when tried over the hurdles last season and won the Grand National hurdle at only his second jumping start. He has been in fine form since returning from his spell with a first-up win and then a couple of third placings in Open handicaps following that effort. More importantly he has winning form in the Trentham mud and with him only being 4kg above the minimum he really should be too good for this field.

Next Best at Trentham – Nedwin
Nedwin is better known these days for his hurdling ability, but showed that he still retains a bit of dash on the flat by winning on the flat at Otaki first-up earlier in the month. He just ploughs through heavy tracks with all of his eight wins coming when the tracks are at their deepest, that record also includes two wins here. He has obviously come back in great order and even though he is competing in an Open handicap on Saturday, his opposition are pretty much hurdlers and steeplechasers anyway. It will come down to the survival of the fittest and this fellow will not let you down.

Best Value at Trentham – Iconic Lass
Iconic Lass put up a brave performance when resuming at New Plymouth a fortnight ago with her condition only giving out late in the home straight. Even though she has not raced at Trentham her best form has come when the tracks are at their worst and by this time of the day the Trentham surface will be very testing. Connections will be hoping she can find some cover in the running this time and if presented at the right time by the in form Katie Hercock, then she is more than capable of having the last say here at some nice each-way value.
