Tramway Stakes 2020 betting tips, best odds & form guide

Vanna Girl
Vanna Girl is one of the star attractions in Saturday’s Group 2 Tramway Stakes at Royal Randwick.

The third Group 2 at Randwick on Saturday is the Drinkwise Tramway Stakes over 1400m. A terrific field has been assembled, with Dreamforce holding favouritism over Vanna Girl, Reloaded and Colette. We also see Auckland & Avondale Guineas winner Dragon Leap step out in Australia for the first time for Lance O’Sullivan and Andrew Scott. The twin speed influences of Dreamforce and Greysful Glamour should ensure a truly run race.

Best Bet
Vanna Girl @ $7 Sportsbet

If you hadn’t heard, Vanna Girl is our pin-up girl after a dominant winter campaign in Queensland that included two Listed wins and the Group 2 The Roses. Trent and Toby Edmonds have always loved travelling their horses and tend to have a fair strike rate when they do, and Vanna Girl looks well placed here as she heads on an Epsom path. A winner of seven from 10, she is simply a bulletproof mare who looks to have come back in great order after two nice trials at the Gold Coast. Drawn in barrier 11, Jason Collett will most likely have the option to roll forward and settle not too far away from the leaders before hitting the line well. She has only had the one first-up run, and that was on debut when beaten less than a length by Badoosh, so we aren’t looking too much into whether or not she goes good fresh. She is a winner over 1400m and gets in well at the weights, so she will take some serious beating.

Best Value
Looks Like Elvis @ $9.50 Sportsbet

A horse we blackbooked after his first run this campaign comes in the form of another Queenslander, Looks Like Elvis, who finds himself with every chance in this. He was trucking along in the concluding stages of the Group 3 Show County but was blocked for room during the entire home straight and finished last, beaten less than 4L. He has won twice and placed a further four times over the 1400m and flies second up, so he will appreciate the extra distance here. In his first-up run, he jumped out of the gates in front but was snagged back to last, so if he can jump that well again here, we expect Kerrin McEvoy to utilise that advantage and put the son of All American into the race. He has some seriously good Queensland form around Niccanova and Deep Image, as well as consistent form in Melbourne that includes a narrow second on Cup Day and a 3.5L defeat in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes. He could come out and blow them away on Saturday if he brings his best.

Next Best
Colette @ $9 Sportsbet

It’s hard not to like what Colette did in the autumn, winning the Adrian Knox and the ATC Oaks in dominant fashion. She has only missed the places once in seven starts, and she has come a long way since that debut run back in December. She has drawn perfectly in barrier one to kick up and settle in the middle of the pack under Josh Parr. While her two trials weren’t anything special, she did a piece of work with Avilius and was absolutely superb, cruising past the multiple Group 1 winner under a strong hold. She is two from two at Randwick, so she’s going to love the conditions. The 1400m first up may be a touch sharp, but she has to be included in the multiple.
