Belmont racecourse

Belmont Park Racecourse is one of two metropolitan tracks utilised in Western Australia and is operated under the guise of Perth Racing, as is the other metropolitan track, Ascot Racecourse.

It’s considered the Winter racing precinct of the west and hosts upwards of 40 race meetings per year with features, including the Belmont Sprint (Group 3) and Hyperion Stakes (Group 3), taking centre stage during the winter period.

Belmont Park Racecourse has been open for operations since 1910 and continues to be accessible, not just for racegoers, but for functions and celebrations as well.

This horse racing track is located quite close to other major sporting attraction as well; with Optus Stadium just 1.2km away from the course. So, if you want to make a day of the races and other sporting codes, the access to both venues can make it a great day out for families as well.

Belmont Park Racecourse address & how to get there

Belmont Park Racecourse is located at Saintly Entrance, Burswood WA 6100.

The Saintly entrance to the course is located just off the Graham Farmer Freeway/Victoria Park Drive and are welcome to find parking there provided they would like drive to the track. Of course, you could also Uber or get a taxi to and from the track. Belmont Park Racecourse are happy for patrons to elect this mode of transportation with access from the same entrance.

Public transport is also available via trains located at Perth Stadium Station which is optimal for going to and from the racecourse. If you’re towards the CBD and needing to cross the Swan River by train, you can get to the track by getting on the Thornlie Line which goes through Perth Stadium Station roughly every 15 minutes.

Keep in mind though, these are almost subject to change, so be sure to check out www.transperth.wa.gov.au to make sure you can secure your best way to the racecourse.


Belmont Park racetrack specifications & details

The anti-clockwise Belmont Park Racecourse has a circumference of 1,699m and a home straight 333m in length.

There are three starting points that start from a chute, these are from the 1000m, 1600m and the 2200m with jockeys having to navigate their way to the rails in these instances. The Belmont Park track is known for playing very well throughout the winter racing season, with the offseason while racing at Ascot Racecourse helping the curators keep the surface in a pristine condition.

Major Races Held At Belmont

The Winter holds the feature racing at Belmont Park with four Group 3 races taking centre stage. Three of these are weight-for-age events with the Belmont Sprint (1400m) the only race under handicap conditions. The Belmont Sprint is usually a good guide for punters looking forward to the Group 3 Hyperion Stakes (1600m) with horses like Luckygray (2012) and Perfect Jewel (2020) doing the double.

The other Group 3 features are the 1200m Roma Cup for the sprinters and the 2000m Strickland Stakes for the staying types. The former being a solid form reference for the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes at Ascot later in the year, as it can showcase some of best local talents vying for supremacy before tying the form into key gallopers flying over from interstate.

Other group racing in Western Australia is held at Ascot racecourse, which is regarded as the premier venue in the state.
