Townsville tips and best bets for April 15

What Townsville Races
Where Townsville Racecourse, Cluden Park, Cluden QLD
When Thursday, April 15, 2021
First Race 12.15pm AEST

Nine provincial races will be run and won at Townsville’s Cluden Park this Thursday afternoon. The track is currently rated a Soft 5 and the rail is out 5.5m from the 1000m to the winning post and 4m for the remainder of the course. Horsebetting.com.au’s Queensland form analyst, Nick Lloyd has found you best bets and a suggested quadrella for the meeting which is due to jump at 12:15pm.

Best Bet – Race 3 #4 Cinnamon Missile

John Manzelmann and Bobby El-Issa combine in the third with Cinnamon Missile who looks on track for North Queensland’s carnival. The six-year-old son of Smart Missile has only won three of his 34 career starts but he did finish just outside of the placings in both the Rockhampton (5th) and Townsville (4th) Cups last year despite only being a Class 3 galloper. He looked the winner on April 8 at this track over the mile, but was run down late by the well-backed Tunero. Back to 1400m with extra fitness in his legs should see him saluting in this small field.

Next Best – Race 7 #1 Bollente

Country circuit champion Bollente is having another crack at provincial races and he looks mighty hard to beat in this Open Handicap. The five-year-old hasn’t been out of the quinella in his past six starts, which include wins over Van Winkle, who nearly won the Country Cup Final at Rockhampton last week, and Fastnet Flyer, who is no slouch. That form has stacked up pretty well to date and he gets in with 60kg after Emma Bell’s 3kg claim. From barrier five, the son of Sizzling should be able to find a spot in the first five or six and should be too good for them. He too will be worth keeping a close eye on over the carnival.

Best Value – Race 9 #7 That’s Two Slabs

It’s nearly 12 months exactly since That’s Two Slabs pulled off one of the plunges of the year at Rockhampton in a Benchmark 58 over 1200m. The six-year-old has only had three starts since then and comes into this second-up off a moderate fresh run at this track and trip on March 29. The son of Elzaam has drawn wide in barrier 12, but we expect to see him sent forward under Chelsea Jokic. With extra fitness on his side now, he can be much more competitive.
