Weather is threatening the Townsville races on Wednesday, but our Queensland expert has found some nice types on the eight race card. The track is currently a Heavy 8, and the rail is out +5.5m from the 1000m to the winning post and then just +3m for the remainder of the course. Race 1 is scheduled to jump at 1:37pm.
Best Bet – Race 7 #1 Revenire
Former Godolphin galloper Revenire has been racing extremely well in North Queensland and looks perfectly placed here on the five day back up. He’s had the six runs up north now which has resulted in five placings and one win, but he’s been racing in some good quality races behind the likes of Beau Jet, Moreno and most recently, I Did It Again. He has to carry the grandstand (62kg), but he gets his dual license trainer/jockey aboard in Carl Spry for the first time. He won’t be far away in the run and should be too good in the heavy conditions.
Next Best – Race 5 #3 Delago’s Girl
Ryan Wiggins and Georgie Bourke combine with a few nice chances including Langhro in race 6, and Delago’s Girl in the fifth, who we are extra keen on. The two-start maiden will be racing on rain affected going for the first time in her career, but we are confident she will handle it based on her breeding. She was beaten by under a length when third at Cairns last time out when she was reeled in very late. Back slightly in trip and fresh off a six week break should see her prove too speedy.
Best Value – Race 8 #2 Our Boy Brett
There was a fair spruik around for this Dreamscape gelding when he debuted a little over a month ago which saw him heavily backed from $5 into as little as $2.50 but punters were left with empty pockets after he was beaten a long way from home. He then got sent out as a $10 chance at this track early in the New Year, and he lived up to earlier expectations to lead all the way over the 1000m. Scott Sheargold stays aboard which is a bonus, as is the fact that he’s a winner on a heavy track at this track and distance. From barrier 6, he’ll be in this for a very long way.
