Townsville racing tips & odds – Tuesday, 29 September 2020

Townsville racing news

Seven races head to Townsville’s Cluden Park on Tuesday afternoon. It’ll be a long wait until the first race at 1:55pm AEST, with the final event of the day at 5:35pm. The track is rated a Soft 5, and the rail is in the true position for the entire circumference of the course.

Tuesday racing tips for Townsville

Best BetRace 1 – Dream Big Get the best odds

It’ll be a fair wait until nearly 2pm, but it should be worth it when Georgie Bourke’s galloper Dream Big lines up in the first. The five-year-old mare boasts good South East Queensland form before she was sent north for the carnival. Four weeks between runs and the drop back to 1300m did her the world of good last start when she did enough to win under the top weight at this track. Ash Butler retains the ride, and the 1.5kg weight drop will be advantageous. She steps up again to 1600m, where she is a winner in the past, and has drawn well in barrier three to box seat behind likely leaders Soldiers and Lefkas Island. It’ll likely be a slow tempo, so she shouldn’t be too far away at all when she makes her charge over the top of them.

Next BestRace 3 – Starsonic Get the best odds

It is D-Day for Trinity Bannon’s Zoustar gelding, who is trying to win his maiden at start number 18. He has placed seven times, including three seconds in his last three races. After rising up in trip to a mile, he dropped back to 1050m last start and got within two lengths of them, so he should be fitter now staying at 1000m. Bannon will push forward from barrier 11 and park behind the speed, and they should be too good for what is an ordinary bunch. Starsonic has come up short again, but we expect him to win this and justify the quote.

Best ValueRace 7 – Helmaz Get the best odds

While $5.50 doesn’t necessarily reek of value, we think ex-Victorian galloper Helmaz reeks of class and should be favourite in his North Queensland debut. Gun apprentice Marnu Potgieter takes the ride for Rodney Miller and will utilise his 3kg claim to get the gelding’s weight down to 58kg. The three-time winner has raced in some quality Benchmark races behind the likes of Wham, Beehunter, Rainbow Thief and Grinzinger Allee. If you go back through his form a bit longer, he has a 4.5L defeat behind Group 1 performers Mr Quickie and Age Of Chivalry – decent form coming into a Class 3 on a Tuesday at Townsville. He’ll be right thereabouts from barrier six and should be too good for these.
