Friday racing tips for Townsville
Townsville will host eight races on Friday afternoon, with the first kicking off at 1:21pm local time. The track is rated a Soft 5 and the rail is in the true position. Let’s take a look at some of the best bets on offer at Australia’s leading online bookmakers.
Bill Kenning and Brad Pengelly combine in the third with a gelding who rises significantly in weight but drops back from a Benchmark 72 to a Benchmark 60. He struggled to muster when fourth last time out to his stablemate Beau Jet at this track and distance from the outside alley, but drawn in gate four here on Friday, he should be able to settle a bit closer. Kenning has a great record at Townsville and is going well of late, so we trust that he wouldn’t send the five-year-old around with 63.5kg for no reason. He looks classes above these.

We are sticking with the exact same trainer/jockey combo later in the day on Beau Jet. He was victorious in the race that Star Banner comes out of, so we hope the form will be franked earlier in the day. He rises 2kg off that win, but he is an old marvel who has carried weight well in the past. The 1000m at Townsville is his ideal situation, and we expect Pengelly to get him into a great spot from barrier two. It is a strong race, however, with a contingent of ex-interstate horses going around, including Toy Boy and Revenire, but they look past their best. Beau Jet can make it three from his last four in this.

Formerly trained by Darryl Hansen, Brands Hatch lines up in his 20th race start on Friday in pursuit of his first win. While he is building a reputation of being a non-winner, he has been around the money enough in his recent starts to suggest a win is near. The 1400m should suit the gelded son of Sebring, as will the potential sting out of the ground if Cluden Park doesn’t face an upgrade. Adin Thompson rides and will look to cross them from barrier nine. This is his best chance to win a race against what is a pretty weak field.
