Townsville racing preview
Tuesday racing will head north to Townsville in Queensland for a seven-part card. The track is currently rated a Soft 5, with the rail out +4m from the 1000m to the winning post and just +2m for the remainder of the course. Race 1 jumps at 1:56pm AEST.
Bill Kenning’s consistent gelding Lighthorse Lad will be sent around as favourite in the last race of the day in a 1200m Class 2. In his 14-start career, the I Am Invincible product has won twice and placed a further six times, finishing in the top three in seven of his last 10 runs. After being grabbed right on the line by Dream Big at this track three weeks ago, he drops back to 1200m and is drawn perfectly in barrier three to get a good run in transit. Brad Pengelly has had four rides on the four-year-old, winning twice and running second at his latest, so they have a good affiliation. This looks the perfect way to go out a winner.

Steve Massingham saddles up Journey Of Song in a very winnable maiden. He is the short-priced favourite, but it is a deserved quote given his strong form in Victoria and his admirable second in his North Queensland debut. Chris Whiteley keeps the ride and will jump from barrier nine, from where we expect them to settle midfield and be too strong late. He’s been runner-up three times in his eight starts and should break through here.

Seven-year-old mare Hidden In Heaven lines up in the open race over 1000m and can get back in the winner’s stall. Her record at the Townsville 1000m is second to none (14:6-1-4), so we expect her to go well here. Her last run at Townsville saw her figure just 4L off Deadly Choices in the Cleveland Bay, so this slight drop in grade bodes well. Gary Kliese will have her in the box seat from barrier four and flying late.
