Eight races will be run and won out of Townsville’s Cluden Park on Thursday. The track is currently rated a Soft 5, but we could see an upgrade due to the fine weather forecast for the next few days. The rail is out 7m from the 1000m to the winning post and 4m for the remainder of the course. HorseBetting.com.au brings you our best bets and quaddie numbers for Thursday’s meeting, which jumps at 12:40pm AEST.
Best Bet: Lingalonga Lass
Darryl Johnston’s Lingalonga Lass knows where the winning post is, having won her last two starts by small margins. Having won a Class 6 at Rockhampton two starts back, she then went to Bowen and saluted in a Class 5, so down 4kg and into a Benchmark 75 should suit her here. Bonnie Thomson won on this five-year-old last start and will do the steering again from barrier eight, which should see the Mossman mare settle in the first three or four. She’s a tough horse, and we expect her to be right in the finish here.
Cleo’s Poet gets back up to a suitable distance on Thursday and should take some beating over the 1609m trip. The six-year-old mare has won twice at Townsville in the past, with both of those being at this distance, so the conditions suit. In just a small field of eight, Nathan Day will take this mare to the front, where she should be able to dictate terms on her own. The daughter of Poet’s Voice finished down the track when first-up behind Star Of O’Reilly, who has since won again, and was fourth at her most recent run when fourth behind Last Chance over an unsuitable 1200m. She can run a big race here.
