Townsville racing preview
An eight-race card has been assembled for Townsville’s Cluden Park Magic Millions Country Cup Qualifier Day. Big fields are the order of the afternoon, and they will be racing on a Soft 5 track. The rail will be out +3.5m from the 1000m to the winning post, while it’ll be +3m for the remainder of the course. Race 1 jumps at 1:34pm local time.
Race 7 – Langhro (#1)Langhro was a licence to print money last start at Cairns, and he looks near enough of a good thing here. Jaden Lloyd has been booked to utilise his 2kg claim, which will get the gelding’s weight down to 61.5kg – the same weight he carried in his 3.5-length demolition job last time out. He’ll be sent forward from barrier nine and can make every post a winner. The eight-year-old gelding has had just the one start at Townsville for a runner-up finish in the Cleveland Bay, which is the best form for this race from anywhere in North Queensland. Expect him to win this.
Race 8 – Whyyoulikethat (#7)Brad Pengelly and Bill Kenning combine in the last with four-year-old gelding Whyyoulikethat, who was an impressive winner on debut at Mt Isa before running fifth at Cairns last time out when favourite. On that occasion, he took a while to wind up from last, but once he did, the race was over. What he did after the line suggested the rise in trip from 950m to 1200m would be ideal, especially on the bigger track. Drawn out in gate 12, he is likely to get back again, but he’ll get the speed on to suit and should finish the better of the lot.
Race 2 – All Too Natural (#4)Stefan Jokic saddles up the 15-start maiden All Too Natural here over 1400m. The son of All Too Hard failed as an even-money favourite last start at this track, but he had to work hard early to lead from the outside alley. He has drawn much nicer here in barrier five, gets Chelsea Jokic on board and should appreciate the rise in trip if he can be ridden with a sit. The ex-Victorian galloper had some good form in the southern state, running around behind some smart ones in Neighbourhood and Secretly Discreet. This looks an ideal race for the six-year-old gelding to break his duck.
