Townsville Betting Preview – February 12, 2021
Cluden Park will host the eight races on Friday afternoon in North Queensland. The track is currently a Soft 7, the rail is in the true position for the entire course, and the first race will jump at 1:34pm local time.
Best Bet: Overseas
The Trinity Bannon stable is flying of late with a 33% win strike rate in the last 12 months, and we expect that trend to continue when she sends around Overseas in the second on Friday. The emerging three-year-old has won three of his eight starts and was only narrowly beaten over 1100m at Mackay a fortnight ago by subsequent winner Sirfina. He chased hard late that day to just miss, so the rise in trip to 1400m should be a big advantage. Chris Whiteley goes aboard and will likely stalk the speed from gate five. Overseas will probably come up short in the market, but he should win this.

Next Best: Princess Rules
Race 4 reminds us of our school sporting days, with the top three fancies representing different parts of Queensland. Starfilly brings with her some decent South East Queensland form, Higher Realm has a near-perfect record at this track, and Princess Rules has been flying at Rockhampton and Mackay. We are siding with the CQ filly to make it three straight, after defeating Russian Weapon and Real Ana at Mackay a fortnight ago in the same grade. She goes to 1200m and gets Ryan Wiggins aboard, which will suit her greatly. She can stalk the speed from barrier four and should be too good in what is a tricky little race.

Best Value: Blumiss
We didn’t think we’d ever find ourselves tipping a seven-year-old maiden at start 24, but here we are. Ray Long’s grey mare Blumiss put in an eye-catching run at this track and distance last time out when 2.5 lengths away in third at any old price. She has placed seven times in her 23-start career, so she isn’t the worst maiden we’ve seen, and off her last run we are willing to have a little bit on her each way. She has drawn well in gate three under Chelsea Jokic for her to box seat and let down in the straight. She gets in well on the minimum and has some of the better sectional splits in the race. She obviously needs everything to go right, but we think she may just get the conditions to suit her on Friday.
