Toowoomba

Clifford Park plays host to nine races on Saturday, headlined by the Weetwood Handicap and Toowoomba Cup. It is a strong card with some quality Queensland gallopers engaged. Perfect racing conditions will complement the afternoon, with fine weather predicted, the track rated a Good 4 and the rail in the true position. The first race will kick off at 1:13pm AEST, with the Cup and Weetwood at 4:58pm and 5:38pm respectively.

Best BetRace 2 – Supergiant Get the best odds

Michael Costa’s stakes-winning gelding looks to get back into the winner’s stall for the first time since his win in the Gunsynd Classic at Eagle Farm in May. While he doesn’t appear to be in the same form as he was over the Winter Carnival, he may not find himself in an easier race than this again in his career. From barrier five, Matty McGillivray will go forward on the four-year-old and make every post a winner. With just the six opponents, he will have no troubles crossing the field to dictate terms from in front. Connections were offered a big sum of money for Supergiant from Hong Kong but rejected it, so they clearly have a big opinion of him.

Next BestRace 4 – Miss Cabaret Get the best odds

It could be a day out for Costa if we are on the money here, as the undefeated Miss Cabaret is a live chance in one of the Toowoomba Guineas. While she held a nomination in Sydney this weekend, connections accepted here in a race that she can win. She flew home late to nail Petunia right on the line two weeks ago at Doomben and did enough to win on debut when she was very green in the straight. Third up now, she knows how to put it all together on race day. Jag Guthman-Chester has been aboard on both occasions and stays on here, which will be advantageous. The pair will get all the favours in the run from barrier three, and we expect them to make it three from three together.

Best ValueRace 6 – Motomiss Get the best odds

Lindsay Hatch’s four-year-old mare can return to the winner’s circle in the sixth event on the program. She has won three times and placed on another occasion in her career, with those all coming at Toowoomba. She has placed fifth in two runs in town in her last two, but prior to that she strung three wins together here on her home track. Barrier 12 will see her land in a beautiful spot in the middle of the pack and unleash with her strong finishing burst over the top of what will be a hot tempo. She is a two time winner at this track and distance and goes well when fresh, so the four week freshen up will suit her. This looks to be a winnable race for this speedy mare at a double-figure quote.
