Tommy Berry to return to Sydney racing
Jockey Tommy Berry will return home from Hong Kong to Sydney with his young family.
Star jockey Tommy Berry is to return to Sydney racing in the upcoming season.
Berry has been based in Hong Kong for 2017/18, firstly as stable rider for John Moore and more recently as a Jockey Club rider, but announced on Friday he had decided to head home at the end of the season next month.
Berry and his wife Sharnee have three young children and the jockey has cited family reasons as one of the driving forces for the decision to return to Sydney.
“Just want to thank every1 for all the messages. We are looking forward to getting home,” Berry posted on Twitter.
“It has been a great experience and we have been very well looked after by the HKJC but we feel home is the best place for our family at this stage of our lives.”
Berry has ridden 16 winners in Hong Kong this season with the highlight coming when he rode Pakistan Star to a Group One win in last month’s Champions & Chater Cup.
