TIVACI has rounded out a spectacular Sydney autumn carnival by taking out the All Aged Stakes at Randwick.

Settling at the back of the field, the Michael Moroney-trained four-year-old was last for the first half of the running but found the outside in the straight and let down with a withering run to pip favourite Le Romain ($1.65 at WilliamHill.com.au) to return $8.60 at Sportsbet.com.au.

Le Romain’s jockey Hugh Bowman was proud of the favourite’s effort.

“Very brave run, gallant in defeat,” he said.

Jungle Edge continued its sparkling set of runs in Sydney by rounding out the placings to deliver $3.20 to Crownbet.com.au clients.

Jockey Kevin Forrester said a better run in transit could have seen Jungle Edge take out the race.

“He raced a little keen,” Forrester said.

“Three weeks between runs I wouldn’t blame that. I think the horse is just a little bit impatient. The 1400m does suit him, he boxed on well and I was very happy with him.”

All honours were with the winner, however, which produced a sensational performance despite being at the back of the field and not getting a true cart into the contest.

Jockey Damien Oliver said the stunning effort to win was made all the more impressive by the fact that very few runners have finished off from the back of the field to win at Randwick.

“He did a good job and defied the pattern,” Oliver said.

“They haven’t been making much ground all day and he is a quality colt, turning stallion.

“He is an imposing type, deserved a group one and all credit to Michael Moroney’s team.”

Trainer Michael Moroney said he was “really confident” that Tivaci would produce its best effort at group one level at Randwick.

“He’s been placed in a lot of group ones so deserved to get one here today,” Moroney said.

The trainer said the team faces a decision on the horse’s future following the breakthrough win.

“It’s very timely as he’s going to stud at Waikato Stud. We’ll have a meeting now as to whether we race on or whether he goes now,” Moroney added.

Damien Oliver believes the horse should race on, and thinks the Winter Carnival in Brisbane will suit Tivaci perfectly.

“He is an ideal sort of horse for those races (In Queensland) 1400m is a great trip for him, he is a nice horse,” he said.
