What Gosford Races

When Thursday, May 25, 2023
First Race 12pm AEST

Racing heads to the Central Coast of New South Wales with the Gosford Race Club hosting an eight-race program this Thursday afternoon. The Gosford track is currently rated a Soft 5, but with no rain forecast for the area in the lead-up to the meeting, we expect to be racing on a perfect Good 4 surface. The rail will be in the true position for the entire circuit, with racing set to kick off on the stroke of midday.

Best Bet at Gosford: Frilled

After two dominant wins to start her career, Frilled from the Matthew Smith yard will be seeking a hat-trick when she takes on a Benchmark 64 over 1000m to close out the Gosford card. On debut at Nowra, this daughter of Star Witness jumped, led and won in an impressive display, defeating Terra Mater by 3.25 lengths in a Maiden Plate. At her next start, this three-year-old filly led all the way again to win by two lengths in a Class 1 Handicap over 1000m at Kembla Grange on May 6. In fact, this girl is yet to finish second to any runner in her short racing career to date, as she has also won all three of her trials. Jeff Penza has ridden Frilled at both of her race starts, and if he can get her to jump well and find the lead or sit outside the other likely leader in Bottom Bar, she should prove too good once again.

Next Best Bet at Gosford: Doubtless Lady

In the penultimate race of the day, the Richard & Will Freedman-trained Doubtless Lady will be looking to build on her nice maiden win from last start. This three-year-old filly started her second racing preparation with a second-place finish over 1200m, before going to 1100m and then 1400m, finishing in the top four at both of those starts. The Freemans then found a nice race for her at Wagga on May 4 over 1000m and she finally broke her maiden at her sixth career start, running over the top of Dorami in the final 100m. Now that this daughter of Not A Single Doubt has that winning confidence, she should be able to build on that and bring up back-to-back victories. Tom Sherry only had his first ride on Doubtless Lady last start, so with him retaining the ride on Thursday, it fills us with more confidence that she can go on with it and win this Class 1 Handicap.

Next Best Bet

Race 7 – Silks#7 Doubtless Lady (1)

3yo Filly | T: Richard & Will Freedman | J: Tom Sherry (55.5kg)

Best Value at Gosford: Tamaroa

The second leg of the quaddie will feature a couple of talented two-year-old geldings who are returning from a spell after racing in town. However, we will be siding with one of the three-year-old geldings in Tamaroa from the Bryce Heys yard, who has had two starts in his first racing campaign. This son of Spieth finished off his most recent start with a blistering turn of foot over 1000m at Kembla Grange on May 6, losing to Ringdembells by half a head on the line. Even though he has finished second at both of his career starts, this guy showed on the firmer ground that he can be much more explosive and that he will enjoy the rise in distance to 1100m. Expect Tamaroa to give them a start from the back of the field, but with the benefit of race fitness over the likes of Getty and Denman Star, he should give us a huge sight in the concluding stages.

Best Value

Race 6 – Silks#2 Tamaroa

3yo Gelding | T: Bryce Heys | J: Jett Stanley (a2) (60kg)
