The Vanity for three-year-old fillies is set to be run and won as part of the nine-race card at Flemington on Saturday afternoon. The Leon & Troy Corstens-trained Zou Dancer has come up favourite for the 1400m Group 3 race, having won over this track and distance at her last start. In 2020 it was a blowout when Bonvicini won at big odds of $26. The 2021 edition of The Vanity is set to jump at 2:45pm AEDT.

Most of these fillies have form tying themselves in over the handy Sensationalisation. Zou Dancer beat that filly in convincing fashion back on December 19, settling up on speed before kicking clear over the last 200m. With speed drawn to her outside and under Jamie Kah from barrier four, she should be able to get in the box seat and stalk the leaders until asked for an effort. If she can replicate the showing she put forward at her last start, the eight-week layoff could prove beneficial over the concluding stages.

The winner of the VRC Oaks from the spring, Personal, resumes following a three-month spell. She drops back to the 1400m, where she has raced on only one occasion: the Thousand Guineas Prelude. On that day she was beaten by Instant Celebrity, who looks equally as classy as this Dabernig & Hayes filly. With a genuine tempo expected from the leaders, it could be set up perfectly for a runner like Personal. She will go back towards the rear of the field and should do her best work late under Damian Oliver.

A forced change of tactics last time out proved pivotal for Vespertine, who had to settle towards the rear of the field and produced a slick turn of foot to claim victory at Caulfield on January 30. We expect the Grahame Begg filly to go forward from the wide barrier under Jordan Childs and look to dictate terms throughout at a nice speed. This one could break a few hearts.
