The final race of the day at Doomben on Saturday is the Group 2 The Roses for three-year-old fillies. The $250,000 event also offers a ballot exemption into the Group 1 Queensland Oaks which will be run a fortnight later. Run over 2000m, there looks to be a little bit of speed from Tycoon Evie, Easifar, Splendiferous and Gunmetal Girl, while Designs, Atonement and Himiko will also push forward. Grace and Harmony is the $4.60 favourite ahead of Bargain ($4.80), Signora Nera ($7.50) and Queensland pair Tycoon Evie and Good Soize (both $10). HorseBetting.com.au brings you the top three prospects for The Roses, including a $100 betting strategy.

The Roses betting preview

Mark Newnham and Josh Parr combine with Bargain, who finished third in the Group 1 Australian Oaks at Randwick in her most recent start. The filly, by Ocean Park, was a fast-finishing second to Duais in the Adrian Knox Stakes a week earlier and backed it up in the Oaks with another eye-catching run from a long way back in the run. Newnham has given Bargain a soft time since, with just the one tick-over trial on May 13 when second to Jazzland. With plenty of speed in this race, Parr should have the filly in a lovely spot from barrier three, likely in the second half of the field, and be finishing strongly down the centre of the track. Her Group 1 placing stands out in this.

We have been with Tony Gollan’s filly Good Soize in both runs back this campaign, and while we don’t have her on top here, we don’t want to jump off her. The daughter of Adelaide has had two runs in the Princess Stakes and the Gold Coast Bracelet over 1630m and 1800m respectively and has rattled home into fourth on both occasions. She now steps out to 2000m which looks to suit her down to the ground and if there is a hot tempo it will suit. Drawn well in barrier six under Ryan Maloney, she is going to be midfield with cover, settling alongside Bargain which will set it up for both of our runners to be finishing off well. She is the one at the odds that can be winning this.

Chris Waller and James McDonald are a force to be reckoned with any day of the week, let alone carnival time, so it is impossible to leave Grace And Harmony out of the numbers. The Sebring filly comes into this in winning form, having won her last three starts in impressive fashion, so she could simply be too good again. McDonald has only ridden her the once and that was last start when they careered away to win the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet by 1.25 lengths after settling midfield. If she had not have drawn barrier 14, we would be quite bullish about her winning chances, but she is just going to need a touch of cover and a touch of luck from out there. Luck in running will play a big part, but Grace and Harmony has ability.
