Thalassophile too strong in Group 3 Aspiration Quality
Thalassophile has improved on her BM 78 success to find victory again, this time in the Group 3 Aspiration Quality for the fillies & mares in the penultimate race at Randwick on Saturday afternoon.
It was a four way go on the line as punters didn’t know where to look in the shadows of the post, with the Chris Waller-trained Thalassophile getting the head down on the line, after taking the gap between short-priced favourite Roots and outsider of the field Pink Ivory.
Craig Williams summed things up perfectly on his fit mare out of Not A Single Doubt, getting back in the field on what looked to be a hot tempo with the light-weighted Banana looking to make every post a winner.
Roots swung very wide turning for home and peaked on her second-up effort while Pink Ivory has resumed in excellent fashion over the unsuitable trip. Cliff’s Art was also a big improver on what we saw in the Millie Fox last time out, beating home Roots into third.

Thalassophile might not be a world beater, but trainer Chris Waller spoke glowingly post-race about his consistent mare and what she can produce moving forward.
“Try and find the easiest race possible, try to make it three (wins in a row),” said Waller.
“That’s the general pattern, we don’t aim too high with a horse like her. She’s doing a great job, this is one step down from the real good horses.
“It’s not all about Group 1 racing and a lot of horses never get to that level and she might be one of them, but she’s labeled herself a Group 3 winner and there’ll be another win or two somewhere for her.”
Craig Williams was grateful to Chris Waller speaking in his post-race interview and getting some opportunities to ride north of the boarder.
“I can only win on horses that I’ve been given the opportunity to. Credit to Chris Waller and his team, my manager and the horses ran their heart out today,” said the class jockey Craig Williams.
“It’s a good day to be up in Sydney for racing, it felt good to be in the winner’s circle.”
He went on to describe the smart placement from Waller as well.
“I love the way, the program that Chris had for her,” said Williams.
“He gave her a confidence win last time. She’s had a bit of a gap between runs so she’s had a jump out in between. She’s thriving with that confidence.”
