Terang Races Betting Preview – Feburary 22, 2021

An eight race card at Terang is set to kick off another week of racing in Victoria. The track has come up as a Good 4 for racing, and with a clear weather forecast we are set for a cracking day of racing with the rail in the true position.

The first at Terang is set to jump at 1:30pm AEDT.

Best Bet: Staredown

Following a less than convincing autumn campaign last year, the Maher and Eustace trained Staredown is set to resume his career at Ternag on Monday. His two starts in that autumn campaign saw him go around and ultimately get rolled as a $2.80 and $1.50 favourite. Having chased home the likes of Chenier and Dalasan in his debut campaign they must think he has a bit about him and are looking for a bit of a soft kill first up. We will not be getting black odds on the day this time round. From barrier nine expect him to roll forward under Johnny Allen and with a bit of luck at the top of the home straight should be going straight past these.

Best BetRace 2 – Staredown (#5) $4.00 with Sportsbet

Next Best: Major Patterson

Marcus Fahler will be hoping his eight-year-old gelding can go one better than his last start second at Stony Creek on February 2. Competing in BM58’s with his rating has seen him go around with 64.5kg on his back, but looked to have handled it enough at Stony Creek to suggest the drop back to the 1000m with the big weight will suit. From the middle of the pack expect Harry Coffey to settle Major Patterson in a forward position and stepping back from 1100m to the 1000m should see him saluting in the second leg of the quaddie.

Next BestRace 7 – Major Patterson (#1) $5.00 with Sportsbet

Best Value: Flying Mr Davis

When Flying Mr Davis won at 1700m on December 11 at Geelong it looked evident that he would get better over further. However, stepping up to 2400m and beyond has seen him finish no better than third in any of the four runs. He steps back from the 2600m at Werribee on January 29 to the 1600m here at Terang and with a genuine tempo expected, you would assume he would be doing his best work late.

Best ValueRace 6 – Flying Mr Davis (#6) $7.50 with Sportsbet
