Tegan Harrison ends run of outs in city
Tegan Harrison has given a timely reminder of her ability with an upset win on Crazy Pops at Eagle Farm.
Former classy two-year-old Real Classic, backed from $1.90 into $1.60, was expected to be too strong for a maiden field over 1000m.
But Harrison did what she does best, bouncing Crazy Pops ($2.90) straight to the lead and then running away to beat Acutum ($12) by 2-1/2 lengths with Real Classic a nose back third.
Harrison has been a fixture among Brisbane’s top jockeys for the past three seasons, but has had a relatively slow start to the 2016-17 season.
Crazy Pops was her sixth city winner for the season and she is currently in 13th place on the jockeys’ premiership.
“I had a double at Ballina on Monday so things are coming together,” she said.
Crazy Pops was having only her second start and trainer Sherrie Lawlor believes she can develop into a Saturday winner.
Eagle Farm was downgraded to a soft five after morning rain and it suited Crazy Pops who had been placed at Doomben on a rain-affected track in June.
Jeff Lloyd, who rode Real Classic, said he didn’t appear to handle the going.
