Taree racing tips

What Taree Races
Where Manning Valley Racing Club – Racecourse Dr, Taree NSW 2430
When Monday, May 8, 2023
First Race 12:40pm AEST

Racing heads to Taree Racecourse on Monday afternoon for what is a competitive seven-race program in country New South Wales. With warm weather forecast over the weekend, we expect the Soft 6 that the track came up at for acceptances, will firm towards a Good 4 come the opener on Monday. The rail sticks to the true position for the meeting getting underway at 12:40pm AEST.

Best Bet at Taree: Better Not Bitter

Our best bet of the day comes up in the penultimate race of the day as the Kris Lees-trained Better Not Bitter looks to build on an impressive last start maiden triumph. The Starspangledbanner gelding put close to four lengths on his rivals over 1500m at Port Macquarie on April 23 when taking a sit off the speed, before unleashing a strong turn of foot. He draws to gain a similar run in transit from barrier five under Aaron Bullock and on the back of a genuinely run 1600m, the race sets up perfectly for Better Not Bitter to get himself out of Class 1 company at the first time of asking.

Best Bet

Race 6 – silks#1 Better Not Bitter (5)

4yo Gelding | T: Kris Lees | J: Aaron Bullock (59kg)

$2.30 with Palmerbet

Next Best at Taree: Polished

With a bit of luck we can round out the day in style with the Donna Grisedale-trained Polished over 1600m. The four-year-old gelding returned from a spell with a smart all the way victory at Grafton on April 22. He over raced and was keen throughout on that day, but when asked for an effort in the home straight, he kicked clear to go on to win by just over four lengths. From barrier Jon Grisedale will looks to take up a similar role aboard the son of Dissident. If he can cross to the rail or at worst, sit outside the lead, we expect Polished to prove too quick for this lot over the mile and send us home on a winning note.

Next Best

Race 7 – silks#5 Polished (10)

4yo Gelding | T: Donna Grisedale | J: Jon Grisedale (58.5kg)

$4 with Ladbrokes

Best Value at Taree: Are We Good

We will be looking to strike some value early on the Taree program as the Tony Ball-trained Are We Good resumes from a fourth-month spell in the opening event. The six-year-old gelding has just one win from 29 starts, but the son of Bel Esprit rarely puts in a poor performance, and we are hoping he can strike fresh from a spell. His lone win in his career came at the Taree 1250m and with a further four minor placings at the track and trip from nine goes, this is clearly his for the taking. He draws to gain a perfect run in transit under Grant Buckley and if the breaks come his way, then Are We Good looks a great each-way play with online bookmakers.

Best Value

Race 1 – silks#5 Are We Good (2)

6yo Gelding | T: Tony Ball | J: Grant Buckley (56kg)

$11 with Neds
