The new week of racing gets underway at Taree on Monday afternoon, as the Manning Valley Race Club gets set to host a quickfire seven-race program. The forecast suggests some scattered showers are likely to hit the course proper, and with the surface currently listed as a Good 4 at the time of writing, we’re expecting a downgrade into the Soft range prior to the first race at 1:50pm AEDT.
Best Bet at Taree: Overextend
Overextend will return from a 162-day spell on Monday afternoon and looks primed for a peak performance based on his barrier trial. The son of Outreach was niggled along to hold a position behind a talented type in the form of Jacenza and chased home under his own steam. That should hold him in good stead for this event, and with a strong first-up profile, watch for Overextend to close off best.

Newsbeat is winless heading into start five for the Matthew Smith barn, however, he does bring some quality maiden form to this contest. His 2.6-length defeat at the hands of Flying Rani at Gosford on November 14 reads quite well, with the form stacking nicely in metropolitan company. Ashley Morgan should get a lovely run from barrier three, and with Newsbeat rock-hard fit for this event, he should prove hard to beat.

Thedaythemusicdied will appreciate a step up in trip to the 1300m on Monday, as the Karen Owen-trained four-year-old heads to Taree third-up. She found the 1000m too sharp at Kempsey on November 10, but did close nicely to suggest an extra 300m would be ideal for the daughter of Domesday. She’ll hold a position from barrier seven under Madeline Owen, and with only luck in transit, Thedaythemusicdied should be finishing off well at a good each-way price with online bookmakers.
