Kerry Taplin has brought up her maiden Group 2 victory of her training career with Tapildoodledo running over the top of Major Beel late to cause a boil over and take out the Tullock Stakes at Rosehill.

The three-year-old son of Proisir had only won the single race before running in the Tullock Stakes on Saturday, so there wasn’t a lot of support for him with online bookmakers, seeing him jump at $23.

Iknowastar took up the lead in the Group 2 and Rachel King was riding her mount like she stole it, setting a very fast tempo, which was sure to set the race up for a swooper with a good turn of foot, and that’s exactly what the winner showed.

With many of these runners expected to push onto the Australian Derby in two weeks, Major Beel and the winner would have to be the two to take out this race after the runner-up stuck on gamely after sitting behind the leader on the breakneck tempo.

After the big win for the stable, Ian Taplin spoke post-race about their Group 2 victory.

“It was amazing. To come all the way from the Sunshine Coast and to win it, incredible. I think we might be in the Derby now (he is),” Taplin said.

“He jumped out wide from the outside gate and he just went straight to the bend, and then he got one off and sat there until the 600m and then he got moving on him, just got home.”

Reece Jones has picked up another Group level victory in the Tulloch Stakes and he spoke post-race about the win.

“Credit to the horse, it was great and switched off and just gave me a lovely run in behind,” Jones said.

“Just from the wide draw, it was a little bit tricky going into that first corner.

“I had to probably relinquish a spot I wanted to be and travel that pair further back.

“It was very genuine, it made it a genuine staying trip which is great to see instead of a sit and sprint.”

Jones finished his interview talking about whether Tapildoodledo could run in the Australian Derby and he said, “I think so absolutely, I wouldn’t put it past him.”

Tapildoodledo is now a $26 chance with online betting sites in the Australian Derby futures markets.
