Sydney breakthrough could spell end of 2kg claim for Wolfgram

Travis Wolfgram is on the verge of losing his 2kg claim in the metropolitan area after riding his first Sydney winner since returning from Queensland.

Wolfgram, who started the season indentured to Ron Quinton, now rides out of the David Pfieffer stable at Warwick Farm.

In between stables, Wolfgram ventured back to Queensland where he was rated one of the state’s most promising apprentices.

Wolfgram’s Sydney breakthrough came on the Jan Bowen-trained Eminent Duke at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

After being parked deep with the leaders, Eminent Duke led into the straight and held off the late charge from the favourite Ultimate Shock.

“I’ve been with David’s stable for a month now,” Wolfgram said.

“He works me hard but it’s starting to pay off.”

Wolfgram can ride two more city winners before his claim is reduced to 1.5kg.

Godolphin’s John O’Shea took training honours with a winning double, thanks to Old North and Handfast.

His jockey James McDonald rode both horses to stretch his premiership lead over Hugh Bowman.

McDonald’s double was matched by Christian Reith who had winners for Tim Martin and John Thompson.
