From barrier nine, look for Thornton to get his mount settled in the first half a dozen in the running and if he is afforded a bit of cover, he should be well-placed to bring up successive wins.

Best Bet Of The Day: Almsgiver
Plenty of punters were getting in the queue to collect on Almsgiver at his last start at Geelong after he looked home over the final 200m, before getting swamped on the line. The Matthew Williams-trained three-year-old now comes to Swan Hill looking to break his maiden at start three. From barrier eight under Dean Yendall, we expect the son of Contributer to look for the leading role and if that last start second is anything to go by, all he will need to do is run out a strong 1600m to be breaking his maiden. Despite going up 1.5kg off his last start effort he should be too quick for this maiden field which seemingly lacks depth.

Next Best Bet: Heavenly Bridges
The Henry Dwyer-trained Heavenly Bridges looks well placed to break a run of outs over the infamous Swan Hill 975m. With Zoe Lloyd hopping on board with her 4kg claim, the five-year-old Unencumbered goes around with just 50kg on her back. With seven weeks between runs after a disappointing run in Adelaide, she looks well placed to bring up a fourth win this campaign. Look for Lloyd to get her to the front of the field from barrier four and under a well-rated ride she looks to quick for her rivals to run down.
