HorseBetting’s Queensland form analyst brings you his best bets, value bet and quaddie numbers for Sunday’s eight race meeting at the Sunshine Coast. Perfect racing conditions are in store for us on Sunday, with the rail true and the track a Good 4. The first race is set to jump at 12:55pm AEST.
Sunshine Coast Best Bet – Devastating
Tony Gollan and Ryan Maloney combine in the second with Devastating, a three-year-old colt by Exceed And Excel who looks primed to break his maiden status. Devastating has had two career starts now and has started favourite both times, running fourth at this track on debut behind Refero and Tiger Heart in April, and then returning at the Gold Coast on August 27 to run third behind Whitewater who has since been placed at Doomben behind Startantes. Ryan Maloney will have to do a bit of work early from barrier 10 if he is to lead again, but unless something jumps out of the ground in this field, he should find it much easier to keep going at the business end. The 1200m again second-up should suit.
Next Best Bet at the Sunshine Coast – Menazzi
Stuart Kendrick has started the season well with 10 winners already to his name and he looks primed to add another in the opening race of the day on his home track with Menazzi. Ryan Maloney will take over from Kyle Wilson-Taylor who partnered the gelding in his most recent start at Eagle Farm where he missed the start and chased hard into third to no avail behind Single Memo. The three-year-old steps out to 1200m in his third start which will suit, as will the long straight at the Sunshine Coast. Drawn barrier two with Maloney in the saddle, we are hoping to see the son of Pride of Dubai settle a touch closer in the run and be well within striking distance in the straight.
Sunshine Coast Best Value – Travoli
Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted saddle up Travoli in the final race of the day, a 1400m Class 1. The four-year-old gelding comes off a fast-finishing third at this track and distance on September 5 in almost an identical race where he was 1.1 lengths off Bohemian Boom and Cleary Adonis with 57.5kg. Boris Thornton retains the ride which is a plus as he has had a bit to do with the horse of late, but he does rise 0.5kg to the 58kg. Drawn barrier 15 makes it awkward, but with a field of eight emergencies, he is set to come in five barriers to gate 10 which is much kinder. We expect the son of More Than Ready to run another big race second-up.
