Sunshine Coast betting preview – March 7
A big nine race program has been assembled for the Sunshine Coast on Sunday afternoon. The track is currently rated a Soft 6 and the rail is out +4m for the entire circumference of the course. Race 1 is set to jump at 12:10pm.
Best Bet: Northern Woods
Ryan Wiggins and Chris Munce join forces in the seventh with stayer on the rise, Northern Woods. The ex-Victorian galloper has had just the three starts in the sunshine state which have included a win and two third placings. His win came two starts back at Ipswich, beating subsequent winner Trust In Aloha by 2.8L, with that galloper putting a further four lengths on the third placegetter. He should find the front from barrier seven and be able to lead all of the way.
Race 7 – Northern Woods (#1)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1363006_07]
Next Best: Jazz Queen
Barry Lockwood’s Jazz Queen won nicely at the Gold Coast two starts back and was then a touch unlucky not to win again at Doomben at her latest outing, going down by 0.3L on a Heavy 10 track. She settled down a fair way back in the small field, was held up at the 500m before letting down nicely late. Both of her wins have come over the 1100m trip, so hopefully she won’t find this too sharp. Drawn suitably in barrier three under Jimmy Orman, she should get a nice run in transit and be finishing off strongly down the centre of the track.
Race 8 – Jazz Queen (#12)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1363006_08]
Best Value: Portuguese Tart
We can finish the day off strongly should seven-year-old mare Portuguese Tart get back into the winner’s circle in the last. The daughter of Falvelon has won just the three of 38, but she has arguably been doing her best work of late. Three starts back she was narrowly defeated by Pinnacle Prince at Randwick in a TAB Highway, before finishing third to Chivargo who has since won again. That form looks a standout here at a track where she has had two starts for a runner-up effort. She gets Scott Galloway aboard, replacing apprentice Leah Kilner which is a big advantage given he has won two races on board her. We are happy to back her again.
Race 9 – Portuguese Tart (#9)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1363006_09]
