First Race 6:15pm AEST

A small, yet competitive seven race card is set to be run and won on Friday night at the Sunshine Coast. Following persistent rain throughout the last week the track is rated a Heavy 8 and genuine mudlarks look to be in vogue. The rail is out 8m the entire course and if history shows us anything, it is no disadvantage to be up on speed throughout the night, or at least not far from it. We are set to get underway from 6:15pm AEST on Friday night. Here are our free Sunshine Coast tips and best bets:

Best Bet: Race 3 #7 Blue Odyssey

The Natalie Mccall-trained Blue Odyssey was to go around at Doomben on Wednesday, but was subsequently scratched to be saved for this on Friday night. The locally trained gelding has an impressive wet track record, with two wins from five starts along with two other runs in the minor placings to add to that record. From barrier three we expect Tiffani Brooker to push forward on the Charge Forward gelding and be hard to run down. If they do not go lickety-split out in front he looks to be the one to catch.

Next Best: Race 1 #1 A River Somewhere

A River Somewhere was sent around as a $1.70 with the top betting sites on debut at Eagle Farm back in July last year, but was ultimately worn down late to settle for a runner up performance, before heading to the paddock. Having trialed up nicely at Doomben in the lead up to her first up run this campaign, the now four-year-old looks well placed to break through for her maiden success. The Exceed And Excel mare will use barrier six to get a cart across the field and push to the lead, and if she can handle the heavy going on Friday night, A River Somewhere looks hard to run down.

Best Value: Race 5 #2 Oswana

In the second leg of the Sunshine Coast quaddie, we are with the North Queensland form that the Tom Smith-trained Oswana brings to Caloundra. Having only finished out of the money on one occasion from seven starts, he will not only relish the wet ground, but will appreciate the genuine tempo over 1400m. If Michael Rodd can settle him with a bit of cover after drawing the widest barrier of 12, then look for the Whittington gelding to be powering down the outside late on and continue his impressive wet track form.
