Eight Friday night races will be run and won at the Sunshine Coast this 8th of January. The track is rated a Soft 5, and the rail is out +4m for the entire circumference of the course. Race 1 is set to go around at 5:53pm.
Best Bet – Race 4 #3 Toorooloo
David Vandyke and Ryan Maloney combine in the fourth with promising three-year-old, Toorooloo. The Tycoon Ruler filly bolted in on debut at Doomben, before finishing just half a length off Fleet Dove, Hancora Field and Kisukano when fourth on a Heavy track. That form has stuck up very well since then, which should see her competitive here. Maloney has ridden her both times, so he knows the horse well. She has drawn a touch wide in barrier 10, but she shows enough early speed to be positive from the wide draw and put herself in the race. We expect to see her winning this.
Steven O’Dea saddles up Marleedoone in a QTIS 3YO Maiden over 1400m which should suit the Falvelon filly. She trialled nicely prior to her debut which she ran fifth in after getting back and hitting the line very nicely over 1200m. She then went back to the trials which saw her win that by half a length at Doomben. Drawn much nicer in barrier 5 here under Steph Thornton, she can bounce, land in a touch better position and bide her time for a sustained run in the straight. She’s one to follow.
Lightly raced seven-year-old gelding La Jument is undefeated at the Sunshine Coast from three starts, so we expect to see her improve second-up and on his favourite track. First-up this campaign, he got back a fair way but worked home nicely to run fourth at Doomben behind Let’s Party Marty. With 59kg from barrier 4, he’s likely to settle in the second half of the field under Andrew Mallyon and be working home better than anything else in the race. He’s unbeaten second-up, unbeaten at the Sunshine Coast and unbeaten on wet tracks, so everything points his way here. He should be winning.
