Sunshine Coast betting preview

What Sunshine Coast Races
Where Corbould Park – 170 Pierce Ave, Caloundra QLD 4551
When Wednesday, December 22, 2021
First Race 1:38pm AEST

HorseBetting’s Queensland racing analyst has studied the eight-race card at the Sunshine Coast on Wednesday afternoon and brings you his best bets and quaddie numbers for the day. It is a rare midweek metropolitan meeting at Corbould Park, and it looks like we will have perfect conditions for racing. The track is rated a Good 4, the rail is out 3m for the entire course, and the first race of the afternoon is set to jump at 1:38pm AEST.

Sunshine Coast Best Bet – Isis Carmella

Rockhampton trainer Kevin Miller sends south his highly talented filly Isis Carmella for her metropolitan debut. The three-year-old daughter of Bel Esprit has won five of her seven career starts, with her two defeats coming in the form of very narrow runner-up performances at Rockhampton and Mackay respectively. The speedy youngster has now won her past four starts by no less than 1.75 lengths, proving just how much classier than her local opposition she is. Having drawn the inside alley under one of Queensland’s best jockeys, Ben Thompson, Isis Carmella will have the early speed to boot through, hold the front and then prove very hard to run down. Despite carrying the big weight of 58.5kg, she can measure up in South-East Queensland and continue on her winning ways.

Next Best at Sunshine Coast – Regimental Band

We encourage you not to watch the replay of Regimental Band’s last start if you backed her. For those that didn’t see, the five-year-old mare was the first horse across the line, but after she shifted in up the home straight, connections of runner-up Dejanova lodged an appeal and claimed the win in the steward’s room. The protest was a bit of a 50-50 call, and while the Michael Costa runner lost on that occasion, we are confident she can make amends in the final race at the Sunny Coast on Wednesday. The daughter of I Am Invincible has won two of her 20 starts, so the wins have been few and far between; however, since moving to Queensland, she has been racing very well. Drawn in barrier four under Ben Thompson, Regimental Band is going to get the gun run behind the speed and we know she will be strong late. Third-up, drawn well and out to 1400m looks the perfect setup for this mare.

Sunshine Coast Value Bet – Military Gambler

Military Gambler is an interesting runner in the second race of the day; he could open at $15 or $4, but either way, we are happy to be with him. The Chris Munce-trained three-year-old has had just the four starts for a win and a second, with his sole victory coming against the likes of Stellar Magic and also Startantes, who has since placed at Group 1 level. The grey son of Rommel has had two trials in preparation for this first-up assignment, so he should be wound up ahead of the 1000m dash. Drawn in barrier three under the man of the hour, Ben Thompson, he should get a lovely run, trailing the likes of Magnitudo, All Stashed Up and Hakkai Maru, who will all look for the front. Military Gambler ran well enough as a $151 debutant at this track and distance, and he no doubt would have come on plenty during his spell, so we are keen to be with him fresh. It may also be worth having something on Thompson to win the Jockey Challenge on Wednesday as well, considering he has a very good book of rides.
