Nine twilight races will go around at the Sunshine Coast on Friday night, with the first kicking off at 5:45pm local time. The rail is in the +9m position for the entire circumference of the course, while the track is rated a Heavy 9. Country Showgirl is one of a few horses who boasts some seriously good form on heavy tracks as a two-year-old. Having her first start as a three-year-old, the daughter of Spirit Of Boom has had four starts on a heavy track for a narrow second at Warwick and two placings behind Fleet Dove and Kisukano at the Sunshine Coast. She’s had a trial leading up to this and gets Michael Rodd on board, which is a big plus. Drawn in barrier six, she’ll hold a position and should be hard to beat.
Les Ross’ filly has run in some tough races this campaign and so should appreciate a drop back to Class 4 company. While she finished some 16 lengths off the winner last start, that came on a Good 3 track behind the very smart Isotope at Listed level. She gets on to a heavy track, where she has run in the first two in both attempts to date, so the rain-affected going should suit her. Drawn in barrier two, she can dictate terms under Tegan Harrison and make this win number five.
Rob Heathcoate’s five-year-old mare should appreciate the going, given her only win came on a Heavy 8 at this track. All bar one of her nine top-three finishes have come at this track, and she should improve second up after being plain last start at Beaudesert. Drawn in barrier five with only 54.5kg on her back, she’ll go forward and be in a handy spot as she chases her second career win.
