What Sunshine Coast Races
Where Sunshine Coast Turf Club – 170 Pierce Ave, Caloundra QLD 4551
When Friday, February 16, 2024
First Race 6:08pm AEST

Racing will return to the Sunshine Coast this Friday evening, with a six-race program awaiting punters. Due to the track being rated a Heavy 10 at the time of acceptances and with more rain forecast for Thursday and Friday, the track is expected to remain in the Heavy range for the whole meeting. The rail will move back into the true position for the entire circuit, with racing set to kick off at 6:08pm AEST.

Best Bet at Sunshine Coast: Outweighed

Outweighed returned to the winner’s circle last start after the Paula Barron-trained filly suffered her first defeat of her six-start career two runs back. The three-year-old has been progressing through her grades nicely, with her most recent victory over Hakkai Maru at this track and trip being one of her best so far. This daughter of Outreach will be stepping into unknown territory again as she takes on Benchmark 85 grade, but given her progress throughout this campaign, it shouldn’t worry her too much. With Sean Cormack retaining the ride, Outweighed should settle midfield off the fence and get every chance to continue on her winning ways.

Next Best at Sunshine Coast: Lady Le Da

Lady Le Da will be hoping for much more luck than she received last start, as the Paul Jenkins-trained mare was held up in traffic for most of the home straight before bursting through the pack to finish 1.9 lengths back in sixth. The four-year-old mare showed that she had improved fitness-wise, and considering she was hard-held until the final 100m, her second-up run shouldn’t have taken much out of her. The wide barrier (13) isn’t ideal, but this daughter of Domesday has shown throughout her career that she is versatile and can adapt to wherever she settles. With even luck and a solid tempo, Lady Le Da will be powering home down the outside late.

Next Best

Race 5 – Silks #11 Lady Le Da (13)

4yo Mare | T: Paul Jenkins | J: TBC (58.5kg)

Best Value at Sunshine Coast: Blueprint

Bryan Dais and Luke Tarrant will combine once again with Blueprint, who will be seeking to break his maiden at the ninth time of asking. Last start, the five-year-old gelding ran home strongly from the back of the field to finish second, beaten half a length by Bean All Ova at this track over 1600m. This son of Beneficia was one of the strongest through the line, and the rise in distance to 1800m should suit him down to the ground. From barrier one, Tarrant won’t have to settle as far back as last start, and he should receive the run of the race. If Blueprint finishes off with the same turn of foot, he will prove very hard to hold out.
