Strathalbyn horse racing preview
A strong nine-race card greets punters for midweek racing at Strathalbyn. The track has come up a Soft 5, but a favourable forecast suggests we’ll be racing on a Good 4 by Wednesday afternoon. The rail is out 3m from the 1200m to the 400m mark and then true the remainder. The first at Strathalbyn will jump at 12:10pm local time.
Having chased home some handy rivals this campaign, Galahad Guru strikes a winnable BM62 in the second leg of the quaddie. On jumps Jason Holder, who has had success on the 5YO gelding in the past. From barrier seven, they map to go back towards the rear of the field, but that shouldn’t hinder their chances. Galahad Guru was successful over this track and distance two starts back after sustaining a long run from the back of the field, and it looks like it could be a repeat here.
John Macmillan and Todd Pannell will look to gain back-to-back wins with this 5YO gelding, who was a dominant victor over 1350m at this track three weeks ago. In barrier one, he’s drawn to get a similar run in transit as he did that day, and all he will need is a bit of luck at the top of the straight. At his last start, he railed behind the leader nicely before entering the straight three wide and quickly put his rivals to bed, going on to win by nearly three lengths.
It was a below-par performance from Greg Lesnikowski’s 7YO mare at this track and distance three weeks ago. Prior to that effort, she was successful in similar conditions and beat home a couple of handy types who have since gone on to win. She raced fairly consistently throughout the winter months and is now deep into her campaign. If Hilumiere can get a bit of luck early on, her turn of foot will take her close to winning this one.
