It’s Strathalbyn Cup day when the club hosts an eight race card on Sunday afternoon. The Strathalbyn Cup is the featured event on the card with a price tag of $52,250 available for the 11 horse field. The track is rated a Good 4 and with the rail in the true position throughout we’re set for a cracking day of racing in South Australia.
The first at Strathalbyn is set to jump at 1:05pm ACDT.
Best Bet : Race 4 – Pollyanna #10
Sunday looks to be the day for the Niki O’Shea and Ashton Downing trained Pollyanna to break her maiden with a win at Strathalbyn. The four-year-old mare is coming off a hat trick of runner performances including her last start effort at Oakbank on January 20 where she was desperately unlucky throughout the run. She was trapped three wide with no cover the trip and to only just miss by half a length shows she has a maiden win in her, and it should be this maiden over 1200m. She looks suited to the 1200m and with barrier four to her name for this assignment, she should sit off the leaders and prove too strong for this field over the concluding stages.

Next Best : Race 6 – Here Comes Lenni #1
We are happy to side with the top weight Here Comes Lenni in the Strathalbyn Cup on Sunday. Two runs back he was an impressive winner in town on Boxing Day, and got the job done with 58.5kgs on his back. His last start effort at Murray Bridge on January 9 was full of merit and despite having every chance he showed he can carry 60kgs and prove competitive. He gets 60kgs here in the Strathalbyn Cup and with Todd Pannell retaining the ride they look hard to hold out in the feature. He maps to take a sit off the leaders heels and with a bit of luck should be getting the job done on Sunday.

The Peter Moody trained Carbone is always there or thereabouts no matter the race he contests, and in the third leg of the quaddie at Strathalbyn he looks well placed to bring up his second win of this campaign. He has tasted success over the Strathalbyn 1350m when dead-heating for first back on January 13 and should be going close in this BM68. With Jessica Eaton retaining the ride, she should settle Carbone a pair off the leaders and be looking to get the upper hand over the last 100m with a customary gutsy performance.
