Strathalbyn racing tips – Wednesday, February 17
Strathalbyn will host an eight-part card on Wednesday afternoon as another week of racing gets underway in South Australia. With a scorching hot summer’s day forecasted, we should be racing on a Good 4 with a likely upgrade to a Good 3 early in the card. With the rail in the true position throughout, and with a top of 37 expected on Wednesday, rock-hard fit runners may be the theme of the day. The first at Strathalbyn is set to jump at 1:05 ACDT.
Best Bet: No Strings
Gordon Richards and Ryan Hurdle will be hoping they can go one better this time with their three-year-old gelding No Strings. He has been putting in consistent performances without breaking through for a win, including a close second at Morphettville on January 30. It was a big run coming off the back of a slow speed from the rear of the field, and to only get beaten by a length on the line is encouraging. He beat home a promising type that day in Insaaf from the Mick Price yard, and if he runs to that form here, he should break his maiden at start five. In the big field, expect Hurdle to settle him in the moving line early on. With a touch of luck, he should be too strong for the rest of this maiden.

Next Best: Master Of Zerprise
On the back of two wins and a second-place finish in his past three starts, Master Of Zeprise looks hard to go past in the opening leg of the Strathalbyn quaddie. The pairing with Jessica Eaton looks to have turned his career around, as they have wins at Gawler and Strathalbyn over the same distance of 2050m he gets on Wednesday. He has shown plenty of versatility in recent times, either settling up on pace or rounding them up from the rear of the field. From barrier two under Eaton, he should settle just off the leader’s heels and prove hard to hold out in the concluding stages.
Race 5 – Master Of Zerprise (#2)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1361614_05]
Best Value: Mr Coyne
Having been put over the jumps during the winter last year, the Nick Smart-trained Mr Coyne resumed with an impressive win over the Gawler 1500m on February 2. He steps up to the mile, where he is yet to break through for a win after four attempts. His last-start win showed he has come back in fine order, and we expect another solid showing with Anna Jordsjo retaining the ride. With a genuine tempo expected over the mile, it should be no disadvantage to be towards the back of the field. Look for Mr Coyne to savage the line late.
